As we hurdle through the under-respected holiday generally recognized only for retail sales, we should take the time to reflect back to our past Presidents and public servants in general. Partisan politics and DMV jokes aside, our country could not function without the workforce that is the civil servant.
From our public schools to our police and fire departments to our libraries, our government provides the services that make up a large part of our society.
Unfortunately, finding Customer Service when dealing with any one of these areas often leaves much to be desired. To be certain, there are sometimes true gems in the rough and those encounters are usually lost among tales of rudeness and indifference, however they do exist.
Enjoy the holiday, you may even spend time on the History Channel, and look for those small encounters that put the ‘civil’ back in Civil Servant.
